A Mesmer in Elona..
Here I am once more like I always do with my characters to ask people of this forum what they found useful in a new area! Alas, it's taken me a couple of months (Hey, I have bit of a life here...it's called work! AH!) I've completed Nightfall with my Elementalist, Neriandal Freit.
Now is the time I begin the game again with my Mesmer, Alsitha Freit (yes, their brothers, they have a sister too.) and I'm wondering what did you find useful for Elona?
What weapons did you find useful as well? Armor?
I'll await thy responses...

1k sunspear isn't bad, though 15k sunspear is nicer (more design, etc). Ancient isn't too bad either, it actually looks like sturdy clothing/travel gear, unlike the dress-armors.
Weapons - you have a huge oppurtunity to construct perfect weapons and foci with the precise mods you want. Overall I prefer the generic skins (canes, chakrums) over the newer Nightfall skins for weapons, both of which come incribeable.

Useful? hmm
Well the Yaminron outside Dzagonur Bastion in Vabbi who had Energy Surge was a really nice suprise.
Also the detail on male mesmer istani boots where nice
But useful? i cant say anything was really useful. The lack of armor types in elona is sort of depressing

Yep...."useful" not the greatest word.
I generally always play a Domination Mesmer and most of the time use my Kaolin Domination Staff...I like the Domination Magic +1 on it...you get a small buzz when you see the +1 working.
As far as skills are concerned I found a number of skills to be useful in certain situations. First off...Spiritual Pain. OMG...that skill is just "teh OWNZ"! lol. It's fantasmic in Kourna where you get Kournan bowmen making Spirits...like in the Venta Cemetary mission around the Guard Posts and the like. Spiritual Pain is lethal there. Power Block {Elite} is good on some of the eles...especially the ele bosses like the Drought and Korshek, the Immolated a sit just shuts them down. Also a skill which will interrupt signets so when you get far enough through you can stop those nasty Roaring Ethers ressing each other with resurrection signet.
Spiritual Pain is a must though....it's awesome.

ancient mesmer armor is cool...dye it a mix of blue, green and orange and you get this realy nice teal color.
as for skills....i run this Me/E build through all of elona..
16 domination, 10 or 11 fast cast, 10 or 11 inspiration
skills--glyph of renewal (elite), spiritual pain, energy burn, empathy, backfire, energy trap, auspicious incantation, ether feast.
very simple, fun and effective build to use in all of elona, especially towards the middle-end of the game where there are high level dervish enemies. glyph of renewal makes this build very versatile in how you use it. if you cast the glyph, then wait for it almost to end, you can cast 1 spell 3 times in a row. (cast glyph, cast spell, cast glyph, cast spell, cast spell). the glyph also is great to use with either auspiscious incantation or enegy trap. for auspicous to work best, cast auspicious, cast the glyph, then cast your highest energy spell (backfire in this build) for a +25 energy gain. you can also glyph energy trap and use it twice in a row for +14 energy.
before entering any battle, cast the glyph. depending on the group, decide what to glyph. if there are many melee/rangers, spread empathy throughout a mob. on dervish enemies cast both backfire and empathy and they will drop in no time. spread backfire on all casters and use backfire to also as energy management with the glyph and auspicious incantation.
if you dont want a domination build, run the whole ineptitude-clumsiness-signet of clumsiness-images of remorse-conjure phant-energy trap, power drain, ether feast build...this exact build also works great in pvp, just switch power drain with frustration.

Spiritual Pain sounds like fun
I'm attempting to finish off capturing the Elementalist Elites, then off to play Alsitha. But your all suggestions have been a big help, as it seems Domination still rules supreme and Spiritual Pain is a must now!
Would anyone else have any suggestions, or found where certain places where an issue for you to find a group/complete a mission?

You have been through the game once so "cheat" a bit and read all the mission breakdowns on guildwiki. plan your build around what's in the mission and you can heor/hench everything until at least the second plotline split (I've only had time to get that far but I'm betting the mesmer can hench at least until the realm of torment)
A hop to Kaineng for general skills and one to LA for Olias will make your life almost too easy.

@OP - you do realize that 5 of the 9 legit responses to your post mentioned clothes. /sigh - we need closet space.
I spotted Avarre one night in the Bazaar wearing the ancient. Makes my rogue armor look shabby.
I've gotten my dervish through NF and working on my warrior. My mesmer has been too busy helping new players through Prophecies, but I haven't noticed anything in NF that should pose a problem for her that can't be overcome with a few skill bar tweaks.

Awesome, thank you muchly Darcy. I've talked to Avarre discussing a couple of builds with her and figure there shouldn't be to much hassle doing this through Elona. It's just finally getting these weapons I've been waiting on in my possession and getting Alsitha through.

I wasnt trying to be a troll sry . i was just pointing surprised that so many people use mesmers in PvE when their primary attribute is absolutely useless outside or PvP.

They're excellent to play outside of PvP if you know what you are doing, and are in the right group as you'll play a crucial roll if properly set.
Thus why I ask a thousand questions when it comes to my mesmer - I don't like to put the mesmers shine down anymore then I have to.

i used tainted flesh(elite), animate bone minions (yes i know they aren't very good), death nova, empathy, conjure phantasm, power spike, energy burn and of course, spiritual pain.
fast casting 11+1
illusion 7
domination 10
death magic 10
i guess this isn't very good build but at least i got trough whole campaign with this, maybe some little changes has been.

Compared to warriors, whose primary attribute is useless all the time? Ha! Ha!

Well so long as you had fun that's all that matters.
Mesmers are very fun to play...but it's a shame Spiritual Pain is pretty useless now.
